* By the numbers: Barnes, a 6-4, 190-pound junior receiver, had 10 receptions for 204 yards and one TD in a 44-14 win over Clinton.

* Coach speak: “He will be one of the top receiver prospects in the state of Mississippi next year,” said Bobby Hall. “He’s a phenomenal football player.”

* The 411: Barnes has 32 receptions for 560 yards and five TDs for the 3-2 Jaguars.

* Born: Jan. 7, 1997 in Jackson

* Favorite athlete: Julio Jones

* Movie: Home Alone

* Dream vacation destination: Hawaii

* College: Barnes hopes to attend the University of Florida and major in architectural engineering.

* Practice, practice, practice: Barnes usually stays late at practice to work on his footwork.

Thomas Garrity

Cathedral/Football

* By the numbers: Garrity, a 5-9, 165-pound senior quarterback, completed 33 of 61 passes for 445 yards and 7 TDs in a 61-55 win over previously unbeaten stringer.

* Coach speak: “He’s a smart kid who understands coverages and makes good decisions,” said Ron Rushing.

* The 411: Garrity has completed 150 of 274 passes for 2,257 yards and 30 TDs.

* Born: Aug. 1, 1996 in Brookhaven

* Favorite athlete: Zach Mettenberger

* Toughest opponent: Tevin Moore of Stringer, who ran for 384 yards against Cathedral.

* Movie: The Longest Yard (the remake)

* Pets: Garrity has two female dogs, Liza, a chocolate lab, and Kirsten, a cocker spaniel.

* College: Garrity is undecided about college but hopes to major in biomedical research.

Mary Shannon Lang

* By the numbers: Lang, a senior, was a double winner at the MAIS state swim meet, with victories in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.

* Coach speak: “She’s the type of athlete who goes above and beyond her limit because she hates to lose,” said Fernando Reis.

* The 411: When Hartfield was a MHSAA member school last year, Lang finished fourth in the 100-freestyle and 200-freestyle at the state meet.

* Born: Feb. 2, 1996 in Flowood

* Toughest athlete: Alex Good (St. Andrew’s)

* Favorite subject: Science

* College: Lang plans to attend Delta State with a goal of becoming a nurse.

Katie Vandiver

Corinth/Slow-Pitch

* By the numbers: Vandiver, a junior outfielder, hit two home runs in an 11-6 win over Kossuth and one homer each in wins over Booneville 11-5 and Mooreville 3-2.

* Coach speak: “She is an exceptional players who has really stepped up to the challenge of this season,” said Janna LaBarreare.

* The 411: Vandiver is batting .522 with two doubles, 3 triples, 8 homers and 29 RBIs in 20 games.

* Born: June 13, 1997 in Tupelo

* Favorite athlete: Jennie Finch

* Toughest opponent: Carleigh Mills (Kossuth)

* Movie: Remember the Titans

* Dream vacation destination: Hawaii

* Ten years from now: She hopes to be a sports therapist.
