The Clarksville boys’ basketball team, fresh off an upset of Jeffersonville, continued to show its mettle in a 79-76 loss Monday night to Bowman Academy, one of the state’s top teams, in the Midwest Showcase Classic at Marshall High School in Indianapolis.
The Generals (5-1), ranked No. 7 in Class 2-A, trailed by double digits much of the first half before staging a late rally against the Eagles (5-1), ranked No. 2 in Class 3-A.
“They trapped us everywhere and we’ve never seen pressure like that,” Clarksville coach Jason Connell said. “We did a good job of finding the open guy, and we attacked them.”
Marquise Parrish led Clarksville with 27 points, while Andrew Jones chipped in 19 points and Calvin McEwen had 18.
“You have to be disappointed in losing, but we battled and never gave up,” Connell said.
Justin King paced Bowman with 18 points.
Bowman, playing just its seventh year of basketball, won the Class 2-A title last year and the Class A championship in 2010.
Christian Barrett scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Warriors (4-3) over the host Owls (0-6).* Scottsburg 62, Seymour 38:
It was Scottsburg’s first win over Seymour in 24 years.
Cameron Schmidt, who hit 8 of 10 free throws, added 17 points for Scottsburg, while Chase Salmon had 13 points for Seymour.
Gibson County Classic
