Dez Marshall, who has led the Collins High School boys’ basketball team to a 19-6 record and a top-20 state ranking, has been named the Eighth Region Player of the Year.
Marshall, a 6-foot-4 senior guard/forward, already has been invited to try out for the Kentucky All-Stars team.
Collins, No. 19 in the state in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings, will host Spencer County at 7:45 p.m. today in a 30th District semifinal.
Marshall was one of three Collins players named to the All-Eighth Region team in a vote of coaches, joining Buddy Johnson and Ralphie Stone. Anderson County’s Glen Drury was named Coach of the Year.
On the girls’ side, Anderson County’s Makenzie Cann was named Player of the Year and Gallatin County’s Holly Roberts was named Coach of the Year.

* LaRue County junior Ivy Brown scored her 2,000th career point Feb. 9 in a 70-57 victory over Bryan Station. The 6-foot forward is averaging 22.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
* Bullitt East senior guard Trey Rakes scored his 1,000th career point Thursday in a 59-54 victory at Elizabethtown. He’s the third senior on the Bullitt East squad to reach the mark, joining Derek Willis and Rusty Troutman.
