Fair Park senior Deangelo McClinton erupted for 36 points in a showdown with Byrd’s Chad Lott to lead the Indians to a stunning 78-74 upset of the second-ranked Yellow Jackets in boys’ nondistrict action Tuesday night at Fair Park.
“Deangelo’s our man,” said Fair Park coach Eddie Hamilton. “He’s a great player and leader, but I think all of our guys wanted to rise to the occasion against a great team and a great player like Chad Lott.”
Lott scored 20 points, while teammates Trey Rogers and Kory Ashley added 12 each, but it was not enough to prevent Byrd (9-1) from taking its first loss of the season.
Shacorey Thomas fired in 11 points in the victory as Fair Park improved to 3-4.
Captain Shreve 81, Alexandria 72: The Gators exploded for 28 fourth-quarter points while holding the Trojans to 16 to rally for the win at Alexandria.
Jesse McWright scored 23 points to lead Captain Shreve as it improved to 5-4 on the season. Toronco Lawson fired in 21 points, Tyrone Earls pumped in 15 and Cameron Coleman added 11 in the Gators’ victory.
ASH’s JD Williams led all scorers with 25 points, including five 3-pointers, and teammate Julian Castenada dropped in 21 for the Trojans in a losing effort.
Minden 90, Airline 77: C.J. Elkins scored 24 points to lead three players in double figures for the Crimson Tide as they held on to defeat the Vikings (3-4) at Airline.
Kevin Hamilton scored 21 and JJ Snead added 16 in the Minden victory.
Freshman Noah Hildebrand led Airline (3-4) with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Anthony Gladney had 13, Tyrice Neal dropped in 11 and Austin Brannon added 10 for the Vikings.
Benton 60, Lakeside 57: The Tigers rallied in the second half, outscoring the Warriors 39-22 after the break to take the victory at Benton.
Kordy Stewart scored 15 points to lead Benton (3-2), while Patrick Edmonds had 12 and Rudy Davis added 10.
Maurice Moore led all scorers with 16 points for Lakeside. Frankie Miles fired in 14 and teammate Jamarion Teal added 10 for the Warriors.
Southwood 68, Green Oaks 42: The Cowboys broke open a close game by outscoring the Giants 40-18 after halftime to coast to the win at Southwood.
Datterius Hubbard and John Parker each had 18 points to lead all scorers as Southwood improved to 5-4. Terion Bell added 14 points for the Cowboys.
Stanley 50, Calvary 43: Alize Elam scored 27 points as the Panthers came from behind to defeat the Cavaliers at Stanley.
Huntington 91, BTW 63: The Raiders overcame a slow start to defeat the Lions and remain unbeaten on the season at Huntington.
Brandon Sheppard scored 20 points to lead the Raiders as they improved to 7-0. Demetric Alexander dropped in 15, Rashad Jones pumped in 11 and Aldon Kelly added 10 in the victory.
Leesville 104, Parkway 87: Darren McQueen scored 46 points to lead the Wampus Cats to the win over the Panthers at Parkway.
Niki Edwards led five Parkway players in doubles figures with 14 points. Gabe DeCuir had 13, Rob Harper dropped in 12, and Trevon Rogers and Jared Collier added 10 apiece.
Mansfield 77, Zwolle 62: Levonte Hall scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Wolverines beat the Hawks at Mansfield.
Jaylon Robinson and Latiedrick Pugh poured in 11 points each and Jerrian Rogers added 10 as Mansfield improved to 6-2.
Natchitochoes Central 59, Loyola 25: Austin Guy led a balanced attack with 10 points as the Chiefs beat the Flyers at Natchitoches.
North Webster 64, Homer 38: Willie Lee scored 14 points to lead the Knights to victory over the Pelicans at Homer.
GIRLS
North Caddo 103, Northwood 17: The top-ranked Lady Rebels scored at will, placing four players in double figures en route to the lopsided victory over the Lady Falcons at Vivian.
Ledetriha Sheppard and Sumer Williams each scored 28, while Jasmine Thomas fired in 13 and Keyarrea Easter added 11 as North Caddo improved to 8-1. The Lady Rebels will next take on Parkway in the Benton Tournament on Thursday.
KJ Harper led Northwood (0-7) with seven points.
Green Oaks 54, Southwood 51: The Lady Giants overcame a seven-point deficit at intermission with a strong second half to defeat the Lady Cowboys at Southwood.
Princess Davis led a trio of Green Oaks players in double figures, scoring 18 points in the win. Jalishia Brown pumped in 15 points and Janey Jones added 10 as the Lady Giants moved to 9-2 on the season.
Chelsea Tieuel had a game-high 26 points for Southwood (5-2), while Michelle Parker added 10 for the Lady Cowboys.
Natchitoches Central 68, Loyola 31: Gabriella Cortez scored a game-high 25 points as the Lady Chiefs rolled past the Lady Flyers in nondistrict play at Natchitoches.
Ladayja McIntosh added 10 points for Natchitoches Central (7-0), who had 11 players score at least one point.
Amber Smith led Loyola with 18 points as the Lady Flyers fell to 7-4.
Caldwell Parish 44, Evangel 34: The Lady Spartans outscored the Lady Eagles 27-17 in the second half to take the victory at Columbia, improving to 7-0 in the process.
Evangel fell to 5-5 as Tiera Young scored 14 points and Rachel Johnson added 12.
Parkway 68, Leesville 63: The Lady Panthers rallied from a 14-point deficit at the start the fourth quarter to upend the Lady Wampus Cats at Parkway.
Tyra Kidd scored 10 of her 25 points in the fourth quarter as Parkway outscored Leesville 29-10. Meanwhile, teammate Wisdom Watts scored nine of her 16 points in the last frame and Kendall Lewis added 10 points to help the Lady Panthers get their first win of the season (1-6).
Huntington 69, Booker T. Washington 51: The Lady Raiders blew open a close game with a 41-25 second-half advantage to beat the Lady Lions at Huntington.
Sh’Mykel Mims scored 13 points to lead four players in double digits as Huntington improved to 4-3. Tanisha Briggs fired in 12 points, and Kierra Sims and Ra’Keydra Sheppard added 11 each.
Kedesha Gay led BTW with 15 points in the loss.
Woodlawn 73, Waskom 48: The Lady Knights outscored the Lady Wildcats 42-22 in the second half and rolled to the victory in Waskom.
Senior Amber Cook scored 32 points to lead all scorers as Woodlawn improved to 3-4. Teammate Haggar Caldwell dropped in 17 and Rachel Elzie added 13 in the victory.
Benton 53, Lakeside 35: The Lady Tigers held the Lady Warriors to just four first-half points en route to the win at Benton.
Megan Fream scored 25 points and Gabby Jackson added 18 as Benton improved to 5-4.
Stanley 75, Calvary 41: The Lady Panthers stretched their gaudy early-season record to 20-0 with a dominating victory over the Lady Cavs at Stanley.
Michee Alexander led all scorers with 28 points, while Macey Nash added 20 for the Lady Panthers. Tasha Hall dropped in 11 and Sara Housley had 10 in the victory.
Margo Pleze led Calvary with 21 points while Justice Fagons added 10.
