A team-by-team look at crew teams in the greater Cumberland County area:

St. Augustine

St. Augustine

Coach: Raymond D’Amico

Returning rowers: 5

Key Rowers: Alastair Watson (Sr.), Dan Capone (Sr.), Brett Barry (Sr.).

Key newcomers: Austin Neri (Sr.), Zachary Labarth (Sr.).

Season outlook: The Hermits are coming off a stellar season and could be even stronger this spring thanks to a group that includes 21 seniors. The varsity eight boat won every local race in 2012 and captured titles at the Garden State Scholastic Championships and the Atlantic County Championships. They also raced in the finals of the Stotesbury Cup.

The Prep junior eight was the only local boys’ boat to win at nationals, and seniors Brian Tindall, Ryan Gerace, John Livingstone and James Boney are returnees from that crew. Neri is a good prospect who was in the novice eight last year. Juniors on the team include Zach Seither, Shane Dickson and coxswain A.J. Parra.

St. Augustine will look to continue the program’s strong tradition on the water, both as a local and national powerhouse.

Vineland Boys

Vineland Boys

Coach: Joe LaRosa

Returning rowers: 14

Key rowers: Ian Fay (Sr.), Kyle Leimeister (So.), Mike Bowen (Sr.), Saige Gomez (Sr.), Josh Marcacci (Jr.), Bill Butler (Sr.), Zack Berthel (Jr.), Brandon Emonds (Sr.), Joleen Rodriguez (Jr.).

Key newcomers: Siani Sanchez (Sr.), Dylan Gentile, Kevin Cortes, Becca Bishop.

Season Outlook: Vineland put four boats in the water last year. The novice eight was the most successful as it captured a state championship. Six of the rowers return from that group, setting the bar at a high level for this season. The Fighting Clan also hope to continue improvement in the varsity eight and lightweights.

Vineland Girls

Vineland Girls

Coach: John McCarty

Returning rowers: 17

Key Rowers: Aria Asselta (Jr.), Aubrie Lincks (Jr.), Mollie Fisher (Jr.), Chelsea Cohen (Sr.).

Key newcomers: Laura Bylone (Jr.), Lindsay Olita (So.).

Season Outlook: The Fighting Clan will look to Asselta, Lincks and Fisher to provide leadership and experience on the team. Cohen and seniors Melissa Zerra and Emily Slusarczyk could be in the varsity four.

Coach: Sean O’Brikis (First year)

Season Outlook: Our Lady of Mercy Academy is rebuilding and has only two seniors — Danielle Dougherty and Giuliana Campo — on the roster. Among the juniors on the squad include Ashley O’Brikis, Rebecca Hesser, Marilyn Porcaro and Niki LaBelle along with 10 sophomores.

Sean O’Brikis is the new coach, taking over for Lou Renzulli, who stepped down after four years.
