Division II, Section V
The teams: Oro Valley Ironwood Ridge, Tucson, Marana Mountain View, Tucson Salpointe Catholic, Tucson Rincon, Casa Grande Vista Grande.
The favorite: Salpointe. Loaded from top to bottom, perhaps coach Dennis Bene’s best team.
The challenger: Ironwood Ridge. Great coaching should help overcome replacing 21 starting positions from state championship team.
The dark horse: Tucson. The move down a divison and a key transfer should help the Badgers blossom.
The intrigue: WR Elijah Anderson transferred from Tucson Santa Rita to Tucson, giving Tucson a potent passing game….Ironwood Ridge replaces just about everybody from last year’s title team….Salpointe added a big-play threat to go with Cam Denson with WR Kaelin Deboskie moving in from Texas….Mountain View, coming off an eight-win season, beat perennial-power Cienega twice by two points last season….Rincon is coming off its first winning season in six years….Vista Grande, moving up from Division III, still is searching for the school’s first winning season since it began playing in 2010.
