Jermarcus Brown’s record-setting performance led him to the year’s final state player of the week award.
Brown ran for 329 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries in Pickens County’s 38-18 win over Maplesville on Thursday for the Class 1A championship.
The 329 yards were the most in a championship game — in any classification — since the AHSAA moved all finals to a neutral site in 1996.
Brown also made six tackles, averaged 42½ yards on two punts, had 30 yards in kickoff returns and was 3-for-4 on extra points.
Micah Bagley, after helping Hoover to a second-straight championship and its eighth in 14 years, was the defense/special teams winner.
Bagley blocked a first-half punt that was recovered in the end zone for the first touchdown in the Bucs’ 20-3 6A win Friday over Auburn. Bagley added six tackles and a second-half fumble recovery.
