STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Stephen Freeborn returned two interceptions for touchdowns, lifting the Sals to an early lead en route to a 36-19 road victory against the Steubenville (Ohio) Big Red.
Freeborn’s returns of 22 and 15 yards gave the Sals (5-1) a 15-0 advantage in the first quarter. Tyler Marronni’s 15 reception from Matthew Sgro gave Sallies a 22-12 lead at halftime. Steubenville cut into the lead in the third quarter, but the Sals put the game away with touchdown runs of 3 and 2 yards by Troy Reeder in the fourth.
Before Friday’s game, the Big Red were 69-4 at their home, Harding Stadium, over the past 10 seasons.
Tower Hill 35, Christiana 0WILMINGTON – Jermaine Knotts rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries to lead Tower Hill to a win over Christiana in a nonconference game.
Knotts scored on runs of 12, 50 and 4 yards. Quarterback Matt Smith rushed for 54 yards and scored on a 3-yard touchdown. He also threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Peter Smith.
Caravel 35, St. Elizabeth 6GLASGOW – Aaron Hudson scored three touchdowns to lead Caravel to a victory over Christiana in a nonconference contest.
Hudson caught touchdown passes of 44 and 76 yards from quarterback Derrick Groomes and also scored on a 54-yard run. He rushed for 69 yards on the night.
Dexter Marchan rushed for 74 yards for Caravel, with most of that coming on a 71-yard touchdown run that staked the Buccaneers to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Robinson added 58 yards on the ground, including a 7-yard touchdown run.
Glasgow 14, Charter 12GLASGOW – Michael Helton and Lammot Brown scored touchdowns as Glasgow held off Charter of Wilmington in a Blue Hen Flight A game.
After Charter took an early 3-0 lead, Helton scored on a 6-yard run in the second quarter and Brown scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter as the Dragons built a 14-3 advantage. Charter scored a touchdown with 40 seconds left in the game to get within two, but an swing pass for a an attempted two-point conversion failed.
