The Bears will host a golf tournament to benefit the school’s baseball team on Dec. 14. The event will begin at 8 a.m. at The Majors Golf Club in Palm Bay.

Cocoa Beach

Two former Minutemen football players recently were named all-conference for their current colleges. Cullen Brown, a 2009 graduate, was chosen by the media and coaches to the All-Southern Conference second team. He is an offensive lineman for The Citadel. He started his final 23 games on the line after being recruited as a tight end. Stetson fullback Mike Yonker, Cocoa Beach class of 2011, received honorable mention on the Pioneer Football League team. He caught 18 passes and was fifth on the team in all-purpose yards.

Basketball rankings

Two Brevard County high school girls basketball teams were recognized by the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches in its first week of ranking the top teams in the state. Viera (8-0) was ranked fourth in Class 7A. Dwyer was the No. 1 team. Florida Air (5-3) was ranked third in Class 3A, where Miami Country Day was the top team. Melbourne Central Catholic also received votes.

Palm Bay

The Pirates baseball program will hold its second Pirates Golf Classic at The Habitat on Dec. 14. The four-person scramble will begin at 8 a.m., and entry fees will provide a round of golf, cart and lunch.

Soccer stats

FLORIDA TODAY will be running statistical leaders in high school soccer beginning this week. Coaches can send stats to sdonovan@floridatoday.com or send leaders with the number of games played as well as goals, assists, points and saves.

Stats will be accepted until 3 p.m. on Wednesdays.
