Edison overcame a 2-1 deficit to beat Waverlyin five sets in Interscholastic Athletic Conference volleyball Thursday night in Elmira Heights.
Autumn Kennedy and Molleigh Malanoski each went 20 of 22 serving for 15 and 12 points, respectively, for Edison (6-0, 2-0 IAC). Each had 11 setter assists, and Malanoski served five aces.
Michelle Woychak added 32 digs and nine kills for the Spartans, while Katelyn Warren collected 12 kills, 15 digs and six aces.
“Great win against a very good team,” Edison coach Kerry Harter said.
For Waverly, Sam Mennig finished with 13 points and 11 assists; Jordan Raupers with 10 points, six aces and 15 digs; and Morgan Salsman with 22 digs and five aces.
Horseheads 3, Maine-Endwell 0: At Horseheads, Marlea Nolan had nine kills as the Blue Raiders rolled to a 25-17, 25-7, 25-12 victory. Logan Wieziolowski added seven kills and seven blocks for Horseheads (5-1).
“Our kids were really flowing and we played extremely well tonight,” Horseheads coach Patti Perone said.
Vestal 3, Elmira 1: At Vestal, Elmira fell 25-12; 21-25; 25-17; 25-17 in the STAC match. Kaitlyn Weaver produced seven kills and three blocks for the Express (3-2), while Abbie Topping had seven kills and 10 digs. Also for Elmira, Dana Tomkalski finished with 23 assists and Kate Snyder with 15 digs.
Corning 3, Binghamton 0: At Corning, the unbeaten Hawks took the STAC match 25-17, 25-13, 25-9. Maddie Taylor had nine aces and six digs for Corning (5-0). Olivia Furness dished out 14 assists.
Watkins Glen 3, Odessa-Montour 1: At Watkins Glen, the Senecas won 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-9 in IAC play. Megan McMinds served for 15 points with five aces for Watkins Glen.
For Odessa-Montour, Leeah Fazzary contributed eight points and three aces.
Elmira 1, Corning 0: At Corning, Amari Hadlock scored off Tianna Hatch-Dailey’s assist with about 15 minutes left. Elmira improved to 7-0 by limiting Corning to three shots. Taylor White made two saves to earn the shutout.
Lili Ruland turned away five shots for Corning (4-2).
Horseheads 1, Maine-Endwell 1: At Maine-Endwell, Alyssa Schrock scored the goal for Horseheads. Kelcie Walker made seven saves for the Blue Raiders (3-1-2), who were outshot 10-8.
Elmira Notre Dame 11, Odessa-Montour 0: At Notre Dame, Li Molingou scored five goals to lead the Crusaders.
Spencer-Van Etten 7, Waverly 0: At Waverly, seven players scored for Spencer-Van Etten.
Owego 100, Horseheads 84: At Horseheads, Mary Edwards won the 100-yard butterfly for the Blue Raiders in the STAC meet.
