Thomas A. Edison swept visiting Dryden, 3-0, in a Section 4 Class C girls volleyball quarterfinal Tuesday.
The fourth-seeded Spartans downed the fifth-seeded Lions, 25-20, 25-17 and 25-22. They advance to semifinal pool play at Horseheads Middle School at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.
Senior middle hitter Katelyn Warren led Edison with nine aces, 10 kills and 21 digs.
Senior Molleigh Malonoski contributed 18 assists and senior outside hitter Becky Linderbery had seven kills and 12 digs.
Oneonta and Trumansburg also won their quarterfinal matches and advanced to pool play along with Edison and top-seeded Windsor, which received a bye. Edison (16-2) has won four consecutive Section 4 titles.
Trumansburg 3, Waverly 2: At Trumansburg, the Blue Raiders outlasted the Wolverines 23-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-13 and 25-17 in a Section 4 Class C quarterfinal.
Anna Shelley had 10 kills for Trumansburg (18-1). Jordan Raupers had 12 kills and 13 digs for Waverly (14-4).
Lansing 2, Spencer Van-Etten 1: At Lansing, Shea McCartney scored twice, including the game-winner with nine minutes left in the game, to send the Bobcats to the Section 4 Class C championship game.
Samantha Grippo gave the fourth-seeded Panthers (12-4-1) a 1-0 lead in the second half before McCartney’s late heroics. Morgan Price had 19 saves for Spencer-Van Etten.
Top-seeded Lansing (17-0) will face defending champion Unatego on Friday or Saturday at a site to be determined.
Elmira, Corning play for title: Top-seeded Elmira and third-seeded Corning will meet in the Section 4 Class AA title game at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Binghamton Alumni Stadium.
