The Interscholastic Athletic Conference champion Elmira Notre Dame and Thomas A. Edison softball teams are the top two seeds for the Section 4 Class tournament, it was announced Friday.
Large School champion Notre Dame (19-1) is the top seed and Small School champion Edison (17-2) is seeded second. Both have first-round byes before hosting quarterfinal games at 4:30 p.m. May 28.
Notre Dame will play either No. 8 Lansing or No. 9 Sidney, and Edison will face either No. 7 Tioga or No. 10 Spencer-Van Etten.
Horseheads (13-5) earned the top seed in Class AA and will host No. 4 Binghamton in a semifinal at 4:30 p.m. May 29. Second-seeded Corning hosts third-seeded Union-Endicott in the other semifinal.
Waverly is seeded fourth in Class B and hosts No. 5 Chenango Forks in a quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m. May 28.
Corning seeded second: Corning earned the No. 2 seed for the Section 4 Class A tournament and will host No. 3 Binghamton in a semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The winner plays top-seeded Ithaca in the championship game on May 29.
Top-seeded Vestal and second-seeded Horseheads will meet in the Class B championship game May 29 at Binghamton High School.
Corning top seed: Defending champion Corning is seeded first and will face second-seeded Ithaca in the Section 4 Class A final at 8 p.m. Thursday at Union-Endicott.
Horseheads is seeded third in Class B and will play at second-seeded Union-Endiocott in a semifinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The winner meets top-seeded Vestal in the title game at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Union-Endicott.
