High school roundup: Heritage Christian boys win 7th straight game

Joel Barreras scored 16 points and Matthew McGinley 15 to lead the Heritage Christian Academy boys basketball team to a 71-39 win Saturday over host Briggsdale.

The win was the seventh in a row for Heritage Christian (17-1), which closes out the regular season at home Tuesday night against Dayspring Christian. Nine Heritage Christian seniors will be honored before the 7:30 p.m. start.

Garret Niichel added 11 points for Heritage Christian, which led 46-10 at halftime and never was threatened in the nonleague game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BRIGGSDALE 43, HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 39 — Mariah Green and Lexi Fisher scored 10 points apiece but Heritage Christian couldn’t overcome a sluggish third quarter and lost to host Briggsdale.

Micaela Bush added nine points for Heritage Christian (12-6), which led 19-18 at halftime but was outscored 12-5 in the third quarter and never recovered.

The Eagles wrap up their regular season with a 6 p.m. game at home Tuesday night against Dayspring Christian.
