The Horseheads baseball team won for the second time in two tries at the Mingo Bay Tournament, downing George Washington 3-2 on Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Dave Yorio pitched five innings of three-hit ball with five strikeouts, and Jake Dimon worked a hitless sixth and seventh. Yorio contributed a run-scoring single and Brett Wieland a sacrifice fly to a three-run sixth inning.

Corning 8, Calvary Christian 6: In Bradenton, Fla., Joe Foti broke a 4-4 tie with a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to help Corning to a win at the IMG National Baseball Classic.
Derek Ayers pitched three innings of relief and earned his first varsity win.
Zachary Sullivan drove in three runs and scored two for Corning (1-1), which scored five runs in the sixth to take an 8-4 lead.
Andrews (S.C.) 4, Elmira 3: Tee Milliken allowed just one hit and no earned runs over six innings for Elmira at the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach.
Alex Bellardini went 2-for-3 for the Express, who will face New Jersey power Lenape on Thursday night.
Carolina Forest 4, Horseheads 3: At Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest (S.C.) scored four runs in the fifth inning in a victory over Horseheads in the Grad Strand Softball Classic.
Horseheads coach Audrey Rijo said the inning was set up when the first two batters reached on errors.
Jessica Rutherford was 2-for-3 with a homer for Horseheads.
“We played like it was our third game and they played like it was their 18th game,” Rijo said.
Horseheads finished its Myrtle Beach trip with a 2-1 record.
Greenup 5, Elmira 3; Elmira 7, Parkersburg 3: At Myrtle Beach, Elmira picked up its first win in four games at the Grand Strand Classic, downing Parkersburg (W. Va.) behind two RBIs each from Kathleen McAlinn and Katia Newton.
Elmira’s Makena Edwards struck out five and walked none in a six-hitter.
Earlier in the day, Dana Tomkalski and Katie Snyder had two hits each for the Express (1-3) in the loss to Greenup (Ky.).
