Horseheads clinched the Southern Tier Athletic Conference West Division girls volleyball title for the 13th consecutive year Thursday with a 3-1 win at Ithaca with some help from Vestal.
The Blue Raiders won the first two sets, 25-7, 25-12, before dropping the third by a 23-25 score. They put away the Little Red with a 25-13 victory.
Ithaca was led by Madison Batie’s six kills, Katherine Marte’s 12 assists and Audrey Bryce’s three blocks.
Horseheads and Corning entered the night tied for first place with 12-1 records. Corning lost at Vestal, 3-2.
Trumansburg 3, Moravia 0: The Blue Raiders (14-0) beat the Blue Devils, 25-9, 25-11 and 25-18, as Chloe Mount had six kills and five aces and Hayley Sherwood chipped in 11 assists and six kills. Autumn Wells had four kills and an ace for Moravia.
Tioga 3, Newfield 0: The Tigers improved to 14-1 with a 25-17, 25-3, 25-13 victory over the Trojans (3-11). Bryanna Godfrey led the winners with eight kills, while Malley Bowen had eight aces and 20 assists. KeAndra Malone had four kills and two aces for Newfield.
Thomas A. Edison 3, Watkins Glen 0: In Elmira Heights, Edison improved to 13-2 overall by sweeping Watkins Glen, 25-12, 25-15, 25-16. The Spartans can clinch the IAC South Large School title with a victory Monday at Newfield.
Lansing 109, Watkins Glen 76: On Thursday at Watkins Glen, Adele Ferris won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly and swam on two winning relays to lead the unbeaten Bobcats. Lansing also got victories from Caroline Dennis in the 200 and 500 freestyles.
Alexis Castelleneta won in diving and Victoria Wixson won the 100-yard breaststroke for the Senecas.
Dryden 113, Waverly 72: At Waverly, Jainyn Wood won the 50 free and 100 butterfly and swam on two winning relays to lead the Purple Lions (6-2). Marita Miller also won twice for Dryden, taking the 200 IM and 500 free, and swam on the winning 400 free relay.
O-M 59, Whitney Point 28: At Odessa-Montour, Emma Raymond won the 100-yard freestyle and 50 freestyle for the Indians in an IAC win.
