High school roundup: Huskies shut out Hawks to stay unbeaten

Matt Young struck out eight and Jeremy Peterson homered to lead the Reno High baseball team to a 12-0, five-inning win Thursday over visiting Hug.

The Huskies (7-0, 2-0 Division I) led 5-0 after two innings before breaking the game open with a six-run third.

Baseball

BISHOP MANOGUE 16, WOOSTER 3 at Wooster: Winning pitcher Alec West homered and was 3-for-4 with five RBIs to lead the Miners. Devonte German scored three runs and also hit a home run.

For Wooster, Cassin Brown was 1-for-2 and scored a run.

GALENA 9, SPANISH SPRINGS 3 at Galena: Chaz Clark was 1-for-2 and drove in three runs for the Grizzlies. Teammate Tim Lichty was 2-for-2, scored two runs and drove in one.

For the Cougars, Shannon Kelly was 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

Softball

BISHOP MANOGUE 6, FAITH LUTHERAN 2 at Faith Lutheran: Pitcher Kayla Batastini got the win and was 2-for-4 with a double for the Miners.

Teammate Kelly Lujan was 2-for-4, doubled and scored a run.

BISHOP MANOGUE 10, CHAPARRAL 1 at Bishop Gorman: Bailey Oos-John got her first win on the mound this season and threw eight strikeouts in a tournament game.

Jo Jo Young was 2-for-3 with two doubles.

REED 5, NORTH VALLEYS 0 at Reed: Mary Dettling, Mariah Levesque and Lindsay Yearman each had two hits as the Raiders shut out the Panthers.

Dettling, who hit a double, and Yearman also had two RBIs apiece.

Megan Dettling was the winning pitcher, striking out eight.
