High School Roundup: Lansing boys, girls defeat Edison in basketball

Ben Rourke scored a game-high 21 points as Lansing rallied from a first-quarter deficit to defeat Thomas A. Edison, 55-41, in Interscholastic Athletic Conference action Monday in Elmira.

Thomas Towner and Tyler Winslow added 12 points apiece for the Bobcats, who trailed 13-11 after one quarter but outscored the Spartans 18-11 in the second quarter. Lansing put the game away with an 18-7 fourth quarter.

Edison was led by Joe Ducot, who scored 11 points, and Chris Becker, who had nine.

Newfield 57, Spencer-Van Etten 35: On Monday in Spencer, Brian Barrett hit four 3-pointers en route to an 18-point night as the Trojans defeated the Panthers.

Dekhari Stewart added 12 points and Devin Cooper 11 for Newfield, which outscored S-VE 30-18 in the second half to pull away. Derek Carman had 15 points for the home team.

Girls basketball

Lansing 55, Thomas A. Edison 18: On Monday in Lansing, the host Bobcats outscored Edison 19-0 in the second quarter en route to the 37-point win.

Shea McCartney led all scorers with 15 points for the winners, who led 34-4 at halftime. Rachel Pronti added 10 points and Maura McCartney chipped in seven.

Katelyn Warren scored nine points for Edison.

Spencer-Van Etten 29, Newfield 27: On Monday in Newfield, Morgan Brock had eight points lead the Panthers past the Trojans.

Dallia Rorick added seven points for the Panthers, who trailed 22-20 entering the fourth quarter.

Mariyah Byrd and Mariah Crawford scored eight points apiece for Newfield.
