Maine-Endwell got off to a slow start before rallying to sweep visiting Union-Endicott, 3-0, in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference match on Tuesday. The Spartans earned a 25-23 win in a back-and-forth first game before soundly defeating the Tigers in the final two.
Julie Yacovoni had the best performance of the match, producing 14 kills, 4 blocks and 2 aces, with Maggie Caroompas adding 13 assists for M-E. Olivia Martino had 7 kills, 4 digs and 2 aces for U-E.
Oneonta 3, Norwich 0: At Oneonta, Krissy Wells had a match-high four aces and 27 assists as the Yellowjackets improved to 8-1 with a straight set (25-7, 25-21, 25-18) victory over the Purple Tornado. Oneonta is currently leading the East Division of the STAC.
Windsor 3, Chenango Forks 0: At Windsor, Lexis Petterson had a match-high 9 kills and Kylie Vuchek added 15 assists as the Black Knights improved to 6-3 with a STAC East Division victory over the Blue Devils.
Maine-Endwell 5, Union-Endicott 0: At Maine-Endwell, five different players scored for the Spartans (3-5) as they knocked off the Tigers in a STAC Metro division game. Jenna Ciganek had five saves in the shutout victory.
Elmira 5, Ithaca 2: At Ithaca, Sierra Barr had a hat trick and Tianna Hatch-Dailey added two goals as the Express improved to 11-0, continuing their record-breaking season. Barr has 22 goals on the season.
Windsor 197, Norwich 209: At Golden Oak Golf Club, Nate Wrighter and Matt Ploutz both shot 3-over 38s as Windsor clinched the STAC East division with a victory over Norwich (6-5).
Vestal 210, Ithaca 220: At R. T. Jones Cornell University Golf Course, Ryan Mihok shot a one-under 35 to help Vestal improve to 10-1 on the season.
Harpursville 192, Greene 214: At Belden Hill Golf Club, Matt Johnson (35), Tyler Graham (37), Garrett Blakeslee (38) and Cody Hawkins (39) all fired sub-40 rounds as the Hornets improved to 10-0 on the season. Harpursville won the Midstate Athletic Conference regular season golf championship with the victory.
Maine-Endwell 93, Greene 82: At Greene, Trojans swimmer Julia Arboit won the 50 free, 100 free and was part of 200 and 400 free relays as Greene fell to Maine-Endwell (3-0). Laura Sarkisian won the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke for the Spartans.
Greene 1, Maine-Endwell 0: At Maine-Endwell, Shiann John scored off a redirection in double overtime with 2:46 remaining on an assist from Jessica David to lift the Trojans to a road win. Greene goalkeeper Julia Amell made 11 saves on the afternoon, while Spartans goalie Cassie Miller stopped five shots.
Fireworks at JC
Johnson City High School will put on a fireworks display to begin its Homecoming weekend Friday, Oct. 11. The show, which is open to the community, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Parking will be available in front of the K-8 school on Columbia Drive and at the high school.
The JC Athletic Booster Club and Hall of Fame Committee will hold a breakfast from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 12 in the high school cafeteria. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students 12-under. For tickets, call the athletic department at 763-1226. The Wildcats football team is scheduled to host Owego at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Binghamton Alumni Stadium.
