High School Roundup: Morris Hills edges past St. Elizabeth


Senior Ashley Lovenberg had five goals and an assist to lead the Morris Hills girls lacrosse team over St. Elizabeth 12-11 in overtime on Wednesday.

Senior Danielle Aihini scored twice for the Scarlet Knights (1-0). For the Panthers (0-2), Carolyne Burns had five goals and Alex DiBrigida had a hat trick and three assists. Julia Darcy also had a hat trick.

Sparta 17, Kittatinny 2: Senior midfielder Claire Schmitzer scored five goals, including her 100th career goal, to lead the Spartans (2-0). Senior midfielder Emily Corrice had six goals and an assist and is now five goals away from her 100th. Sophomore midfielder Julia Silvestri chipped in two goals and two assists. For the Cougars (0-2), sophomore Lindsay McKim scored twice.

Vernon 16, Boonton 4: Senior attack Samantha Fernot and junior attack Demi Matthews each had five goals and two assists to lead the Vikings (2-0). Junior midfielder Erin Bushey contributed a hat trick. Senior attack Huma Sheikh scored twice for the Bombers (0-2).

Lenape Valley 11, Newark Academy 9: Sally Olson scored four consecutive goals as Lenape Valley overcame a four-goal first-half deficit. Olson, a sophomore attack wing, finished with five goals, an assist, and four draw controls. Senior Alexis Kenney and sophomore Alyssa Falleni each added three goals for the Patriots (1-1).

Pope John 14, West Milford 8: Junior midfielder Dena Solazzo led the Lions (1-0) with four goals. Junior midfielder Kateri Brooks and sophomore attack Baylee Vozza each had a hat trick. Kristina Worts chipped in two goals. Goalie Marissa Raczynski made 10 saves.

Westfield 16, Morris Knolls 4: Senior attack Shaina Gilmore scored twice for the Golden Eagles (0-1) on Tuesday. Junior midfielder Jacie Cooper and senior midfielder Haleigh Schroth also scored.

Boys Lacrosse

Delbarton 9, Ridgewood 5: Senior attack Grant Van Fossen led the Green Wave (1-0) with a hat trick. Senior attack Tom Fowler had two goals and three assists while senior midfielder Matt Killian had two goals and an assist.

Morris Hills 11, West Orange 1: Sophomore attack Zach Berkowitz had five goals and an assist to lift the Scarlet Knights (1-1). Senior attack Steve Rome and senior midfielder Eric Turner each had two goals and three assists. Goalie Josh Burlacu made seven saves.

North Warren 13, Warren Hills 3: Senior midfielder Nolan Robertson scored five goals and had two assists to lift the Patriots (1-1). Senior midfielder Connor Foerster had a hat trick and two assists while senior attack Brian Wilbur had two goals and three assists. Junior goalie Andrew Palatini made eight saves.


Morris Knolls 11, Lenape Valley 2: Senior pitcher Kim Felix picked up the win for the Golden Eagles (2-0) after she allowed two runs on one hit, walked two and struck out seven in 51/3 innings. She also went 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and three runs scored. First baseman Gina Nappi went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. For the Patriots (1-2), catcher Maria Lacatena went 2-for-3.

Hanover Park 6, Kittatinny 3: Senior Nicole Fernicola went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Hornets (2-0). Freshman Nicole Petrovich went 3-for-4 with three RBI and junior pitcher Sam Snyder gave up five hits and struck out five. For the Cougars (0-2), pitcher Karley Bussow went 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored.

Columbia 11, Villa Walsh 8: Junior third baseman Veronica Manley went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Vikings on Tuesday. Freshman designated player Annie McCluskey went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored while senior shortstop Juliana Strelec went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
