HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Nellis secures Shore Conference Tournament victory for Keyport field hockey

The Shore Conference Field Hockey Tournament was in full swing on Saturday afternoon with no finish more enrapturing than No. 17 Raritan and the 16th-seeded Keyport.

After Raritan’s Amanda Pillito opened the scoring with a first-half marker at 15:23, the score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Rockets until the 40th minute of the second half when a penalty corner allowed for a Taylor Sheridan blast to be tipped in by Danielle Picinni to tie the score.

Nearly eight minutes later, a second penalty corner attempt saw Picinni and Sheridan set up Sami Nellis for the eventual game-winning-goal.

Raritan’s Alexia Teadeo stopped nine shots while Keyport’s Rachel Trigg made three saves to preserve the victory.

TOMS RIVER SOUTH 3, MATAWAN 0: Toms River South’s Victory Alvarez scored two second-half goals in a matter of five minutes (32:23 and 36:51) extending her team’s lead to three goals and lifting the No. 13 Indians (10-2-1) over the the No. 20 Huskies (7-6) in this Shore Conference Tournament meeting.

Toms River’s Danica Heck opened the scoring with with a first half goal off a pass from Lynsey Eddy at 14:43, while Meghan Lee recorded the shut off after turning away eight shots.

RED BANK CATHOLIC 4, PINELANDS 0: Red Bank Catholic’s Christina Stewart scored two goals while Alyssa Coakley added an assist to her first half marker as the 12th-seeded Caseys (8-5-1) rolled past the Wildcats (6-6-1) in this preliminary round meeting.

Erin Price scored Red Bank’s fourth and final goal while Alyssa Lubischer dealt out two assists and Siobhan Cottell stopped seven shots to preserve the shutout.

ST. JOHN VIANNEY 4, POINT BORO 1: St. John Vianney’s Jackie Gallagher scored the opening marker in the 13th minute and followed with an assist on a Stephanie Noll goal en route to the No. 14 Lancers’ (5-6-2) first round victory over the 19th-seeded Panthers (11-3).

The Lancers’ Amanda Foreman assisted on Victoria Ruggiero and Brittany Richards, while MacKenzie Gallie scored Point Boro’s lone goal.

Boys soccer

SHORE 2, MATER DEI 1: Shore’s Cole Allem scored the eventual game-winning-goal in the 62nd minute and assisted on a J.T. Kessler marker as the Blue Devils (11-6, 9-2) moved past the Seraphs (3-13, 3-8) in this Class B Central meeting. Nic Geneve scored Mater Dei’s only goal.

POINT BORO 3, MANCHESTER 2 (OT): After Manchester’s Anisia Fucci opened the scoring and assisted on a Lyric Green goal, Point Boro followed with three consecutive markers by Julia Fitzsimmons, Bella Harter, and a game-winning overtime goal by Kaitlyn Seiter as the Panthers (9-4-1) edged out the Hawks (6-10) in this Class B South matchup.
