High School Roundup: Owego boys pull away to win Waverly Christmas Tournament

The Owego boys basketball team outscored Waverly 21-10 in the fourth quarter en route to a 66-57 victory Sunday over Waverly in the championship game of the Waverly Christmas Tournament.

Zach Thomas led the Indians with a team-high 18 points with eight of them coming in the fourth quarter.

Four other players scored in double digits for Owego, as Brandon Hathway scored 12 points and Duncan Spicer, Zane Paradies and Will Gladney all had 11. The Indians shot 16-for-24 from the foul line, including 9-for-11 in the final quarter.

Dylan Perry led Waverly with a game-high 20 points.

Girls basketball

Waverly 49, Wyalusing 27: At Waverly, Reylyn Schwartzhoff scored 16 points to lead Waverly past Wyalusing in the championship game of the Waverly Christmas Tournament.

The Wolverines outscored the Rams 13-1 in the second quarter, then Schwartzoff outscored Wyalusing by herself in the third, dropping in six points as Waverly held a 13-5 advantage in the period.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Emiley Myers and Jordan Raupers added nine points apiece for Waverly.

Ally Devoir, Veronica Morrison and Kasey Devoir scored seven points each to lead Wyalusing.

Schwartzoff was joined on the All-Tournament team by Wolverines teammate Kylie Newman, Tioga’s Danielle Barto and Corning’s Olivia LeBaron .
