High School Roundup: Red Bank Catholic girls lacrosse edges past Sacred Heart

Grace Fallon scored the game-winning goal with 10 seconds left as the Red Bank Catholic girls lacrosse team defeated Sacred Heart 13-12 in a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon.

The Caseys (8-0) were losing 9-4 at halftime before outscoring the Lions (4-5) 9-3 in the second half to win their eighth straight victory of the season.

Fallon finished the day with a game-high six goals, and had three assists. Maeve Cowley scored two goals and had two assists, and junior Amanda Casten scored two goals. Goalie Sabrina Arbes made eight saves for the Caseys.

Chrissy Corcoran and Erin Pfail each scored four goals for the Lions.

LONG BRANCH 11, ST. JOHN VIANNEY 10: Jacinta Santos scored the game-winning goal with 2:24 left as the Green Wave (1-8) defeated the Lancers (2-5) in a Class B North game.

Santos finished with four goals and two assists, and Kim Davis scored five goals for the Green Wave. St. John Vianney’s Gianna DeMato scored five goals, and had two assists.

TR NORTH 20, BRICK MEM. 8: Kristine Knowles and Kendal Kauffman each scored five goals to lead the Mariners (5-1, 5-1) past the Mustangs (1-6, 1-5) in a Class A South game.

Sophomore Kerri Anderson scored three goals, and Paige Moore scored two goals for the Mustangs.

Boys Lacrosse

HOWELL 7, MARLBORO 5: Alec Dambach scored two of his four goals in the third quarter and Jake Sherman scored two of his three goals in the third quarter as the Rebels (4-3, 3-2) defeated the Mustangs (2-5, 1-3) in a Class A North game.

Marlboro’s Sam Sugarman had one goal and two assists.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP 12, WALL 8: Senior Dan Bloodgood and junior Stephen O’Brien each scored two of their three goals in the second quarter as the Patriots (5-1, 3-1) defeated the Crimson Knights (6-1, 4-1) in a Class A North game.

Wall junior Kyle Critchlow finished with three goals.

LACEY 9, JACKSON LIBERTY 6: Junior midfielder Dan Cannon scored all four of his goals in the first half and senior attackman Brock Torre added two goals as Lacey (5-5, 2-4) defeated Jackson Liberty (2-4, 0-3) in a Class A South game.

Jackson Liberty senior midfielder Brandon Kokich and senior attackman James Mulholland each had two goals.

Hudson Country Track Coach Association Relays

The Howell girls track team won the meet with a score of 83.5 points as they won the high jump relay, the javelin relays, the discus relays and the 4×400 relay on Saturday.

Boys Volleyball

CBA 2, RIDGE 0: The Colts (9-1) won the Crusader Invitational with 25-14 and 25-13 victories over the Red Devils of Somerset County in the championship match at Bergen Catholic.

For CBA, Dan Andree notched three aces and six kills. John Gatens finished with two aces and seven kills. James McPaul had four kills and five blocks,. Doug Dzema put up two kills, five blocks and 17 assists. Sal Bivona added two aces and two digs.

The Colts won the event for the first time in program history. They lost in the quarterfinals in 2011 in their other appearance in the event.
