The Resurrection Christian School boys basketball team lived to play another day with a 58-44 win over Yuma in the Class 2A state tournament in Pueblo, Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Cougars (20-6) advance to Saturday’s consolation championship where they’ll play Lutheran (19-6) at 10 a.m.
Wyatt Simon led the attack for Resurrection Christian with 17 points. Jake Lohr and Brock Buxman each pitched in with 12 as Resurrection Christian took a 28-18 halftime lead.
BASEBALL
PEAK TO PEAK 5, RESURRECTION CHRISTIAN 4 — Resurrection Christian lost in a bummer of a way in its season opener, walking in the winning run for Peak to Peak.
Up 4-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Resurrection Christian (0-1) struck out the first batter in the inning, but allowed two straight singles and a walk to load the bases. Peak to Peak (2-0) scored a run on a fielder’s choice, following a pitching change. Resurrection Christian then issued a bases-loaded walk with two outs to give Peak to Peak the win.
GIRLS TENNIS
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 7, GEORGE WASHINGTON 0 — Rocky Mountain traveled to George Washington Friday and swept the competition, as singles players Natalie House, Brianna Garza and Nicole Garza all won in straight sets.
The doubles matches went almost just as smoothly for the Lobos, as only the No. 4 team of Michelle Dworkin and Kyra Carney had to go to three sets, where they won 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
