Chris Ruffo had consecutive steals and layups as Chanango Valley’s boys basketball team, trailing by one point late in the fourth quarter, rallied for a 60-55 victory against Windsor in Southern Tier Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night.
Ruffo’s stretch of big defensive plays came with three minutes remaining in the game. He stole the ball and went downcourt for a layup, then stole the resulting inbounds play and hit another layup to give Chenango Valley a three-point lead.
Ruffo scored eight points in the fourth quarter and finished with 24 points for Chenango Valley, which also got 24 points from Zach Collins. Ben Rivera had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Windsor.
Maine-Endwell 50, Vestal 37: Maine-Endwell trailed by eight points at halftime before outscoring the Golden Bears 32-11 in the second half to rally for a STAC victory. Julie Yacovoni had 12 points in the second half and 19 overall for the Spartans.
Vestal led 26-18 at halftime. Alyssa Mullins had three 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 13 points.
Corning 47, Johnson City 38: Chris Carptentari had a double-double for Johnson City with 15 points and 13 rebounds in the nonleague game.
The Wildcats led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter before being outscored a combined 30-16 in the second and third quarters.
Waverly 70, Thomas A. Edison 30: Sabrina Bowman scored 29 points, including her 1,000th at the varsity level, as Waverly ran past Thomas A. Edison.
Michelle Woychak led the Spartans with eight points.
Horseheads 68, Ithaca 25: Tess Wicks had four 3-pointers and finished with 21 points and six rebounds to lead Horseheads.
Taylor DePalma had 11 points to lead Ithaca.
