High school roundup: Sowers, McCutcheon baseball rally for 4-2 win


NOBLESVILLE – Logan Sowers homered and drove in all four McCutcheon runs, including three in the seventh inning, as the Class 4A No. 7 Mavericks rallied for a 4-2 baseball victory at Noblesville on Tuesday.

Jordan Young pitched 62/3 strong innings for McCutcheon (12-4), striking out five while yielding just two hits.

Spencer Ronchetto went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Red Devils, who took control with six runs in the second inning before adding four more in the fourth.

FISHERS – Bailey Perdue went 4-for-4, but the Bronchos came up short in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference road game.

VEEDERSBURG – Austin Smyth pitched a three-hit shutout, and Mike Green and Jordan Capps each drove in three runs, leading the Red Ramblers to a Wabash River Conference victory against the Mustangs.

Smyth (4-1) struck out eight and walked one, and Attica played errorless defense behind him. Green was 3-for-4, and Capps was 2-for-4 for the Red Ramblers (9-6, 5-2 WRC), who pounded out 14 hits. Fountain Central slipped to 6-11.

SHERIDAN – Brayton Cooper took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finished with seven strikeouts in a complete-game road win.

Cody Disinger had two RBIs for the Hornets (3-8). Josh Kessler totaled three hits, while Cooper and Levi Ellers added two apiece.

Covington 4

COVINGTON – Dakota Ware had a grand slam and six RBIs, leading the Patriots to an easy Wabash River Conference victory.

Avery Acton and Caleb Orahood each added home runs for Seeger (11-3, 7-0).

FRANCESVILLE – Brennan Argo had two hits and two runs batted in to lead the Eagles.

Alex Spitznagle was 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Raiders, who used a seven-run fourth inning to power their way to a Hoosier Crossroads Conference triumph.

Maggie Shandrick had three hits for Harrison (8-7), while Syd Scott and Reghan Lerch each drove in two runs.

Olivia Kirchner and Molly Erb finished with three hits apiece to lead the Red Devils past the visiting Bison.

WOLCOTT – Kattie Lee had two home runs and five RBIs, and Lindsey Hiner struck out seven while tossing a one-hitter in an easy win for the Falcons.
