David Matthews hit a 3-pointer just before time expired in regulation and Susquehanna Valley went on an 11-2 run to start overtime before holding on for a 79-74 boys basketball victory over Mansfield (Pa.) win Monday in the Region 1 final of the Josh Palmer Fund Elmira Holiday Inn Classic at Elmira Southside.
Matthews’ shot came after Susquehanna Valley (5-1) grabbed two offensive rebounds following missed 3-point tries.
Jason Fiorentino led Susquehanna Valley with 22 points. Shaynne Rodriguez, named MVP for the division, had 21 points and 10 rebounds. Matthews added 20 points.
Bo Burleigh had 22 points and 15 rebounds for Mansfield (7-3).
Harpursville 61, Oxford 22: At Harpursville, Miranda Drummond scored 23 points to lead the Hornets in the Harpursville Holiday Tournament, which was contested as a three-team, round-robin event.
Drummond scored 12 of her points in the first quarter as Harpursville (8-0) jumped to an 18-2 lead. Shelby Medovich added 12 points for the Hornets. Rachel Sieles scored 10 points to lead Oxford.
Owego 62, Northeast Bradford 34: At Northeast Bradford, Emily Merrill had 13 points, 19 rebounds and seven steals, leading four players in double figures, as Owego cruised to victory in a nonleague game.
Rachel Merrill scored 17 points, Jill Silvanic had 14 points and eight rebounds and Kim Lavendar added 10 points for the Indians (6-2), who outscored the Panthers, 34-16 in the second half.
Calla Johnson scored 12 points to lead Northeast Bradford (5-1).
Canisteo-Greenwood 50, Odessa-Montour 32: At O-M, Amber Edwards had a game-high 16 points as Canisteo-Greenwood topped Odessa-Montour in a nonleague game.
Sofia Caltabiano added 15 points for C-G (4-3), which is located near Hornell. Gillian Clark had 10 points for O-M (1-6).
