After storming through the regular season to a 17-0 record, the Trumansburg volleyball team has been installed as a No. 3 seed for the upcoming Section 4 Class C tournament.
The Blue Raiders (17-0) will take on No. 6 seed Waverly (14-3) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Trumansburg. Other quarterfinal matchups include No. 7 seed and defending champion Lansing (8-7) at No. 2 seed Oneonta (11-3) and No. 5 seed Dryden (12-2) at No. 4 Thomas A. Edison (14-2). Top seed Windsor (11-3) earned a first-round bye.
The three quarterfinal winners will join Windsor in the round-robin semifinals, slated for 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Horseheads Middle School. The top two teams in the round-robin will play for the Class C championship at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Watkins Glen High.
Trumansburg, the 2011 sectional champion, has not dropped a game in its past six matches. Coach Angela McLennan’s squad has one more match before beginning its sectional run — Friday night’s Interscholastic Athletic Conference Large School final. The Large North champion Blue Raiders will host South Large champion Edison (14-2) at 6 p.m. in Somerville Gym.
Class C Boys soccer
Trumansburg 2, Tioga 0: Gabe Dell’Accio and Danny Lapp scored for the Blue Raiders (14-2), who outshot the Tigers 27-1.
Dell’Accio scored three minutes into the game off an assist from Mitch Swartwood, who poked the ball from Tioga keeper Luke Hoose to Dell’Accio inside the 6-yard box. Lapp scored with 13 minutes left in the game, converting a Dell’Accio corner kick.
Hoose kept Tioga in the game with a 26-save effort. Seamus Henehan stopped the only shot he saw for Trumansburg.
The fourth-seeded Blue Raiders will host Spencer-Van Etten — which defeated Unatego, 3-0, on Wednesday — at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Class C quarterfinals. Other quarterfinal matchups on Saturday include ninth-seeded Walton (12-4) at top seed Lansing (15-1), sixth-seeded Marathon (12-3) at third-seeded Elmira Notre Dame (14-3) and seventh-seeded Watkins Glen (10-6-1) at second-seeded Greene (16-0).
Spencer-Van Etten 3, Unatego 0: The fifth-seeded Panthers (13-2-1), IAC Small School runners-up, got two goals and an assist from Ben Schanbacher and outlasted the No. 12 Spartans (9-5-2). Ryan Lanning also scored for S-VE, which outshot Unatego 21-4.
Elmira Notre Dame 7, Newfield 0: The Crusaders bounced back from their IAC Large School title-game loss to Lansing by dominating the Trojans (5-8-2). Li Molingou scored twice for the winners, who led 4-0 at halftime and outshot Newfield 24-1. Brandon Mahajan and Rocco Coulibay added a goal and an assist apiece.
Leif Pakkala made 13 saves for Newfield, while Wil Pochal had one for Notre Dame.
Watkins Glen 1, Seton Catholic 0, OT: Luke Flahive scored in the third minute of the second overtime period to lift the Senecas past the Saints.
