High School Roundup: Waverly boys, girls win basketball tournament openers

Waverly pulled away from Spencer-Van Etten in the fourth quarter to win a boys basketball game, 58-46, in the opening round of the Waverly Christmas Tournament on Thursday.

Hunter Bodine scored 13 points for the Wolverines (5-3), who outscored the Panthers 22-11 in the fourth quarter. Dylan Perry added 11 points and Peyton Miller scored 10.

Derek Carman led Spencer-Van Etten (4-3) with 15 points.

Waverly plays either Owego or Wyalusing in the championship game at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Girls basketball

Waverly 49, Tioga 33: At the Waverly Christmas Tournament, Waverly improved to 7-0 with a victory over Tioga.

The Wolverines will play either Corning or Wyalusing in the championship game at 5 p.m. Sunday.
