High School Roundup: West Morris rolls past Roxbury

Junior midfielder Jeremy Angle had five goals and two assists to lead the third-seeded West Morris boys lacrosse team over No. 14 Roxbury 12-3 in the first round of the NJSIAA North Group III Tournament on Saturday.

Junior attack Matt Carfaro had four goals and junior attack Ryan Muscatella had five assists for the Wolfpack (10-9). For the No. 14 Gaels (7-9), sophomore attack Will Doran, senior attack John Magi and junior midfielder Steve Ruffin scored. West Morris will host No. 6 Fair Lawn in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Fair Lawn 15, Randolph 11: Senior attack Kurt Naslonski had four goals and three assists for the 11th-seeded Rams (6-13) in North Group III. Senior midfielder Matt Cohn had a hat trick and junior attack T.J. Lindquist scored twice.

Kinnelon 14, Kittatinny 1: Senior midfielder Brian Gnad had a hat trick and two assists to lead the No. 5 Colts (10-7) in North Group I. Junior attack Robert Lewis and senior attack Ryan O’Keefe each had two goals and two assists. Goalies John Calia and Derek Hoffman combined for six saves. Junior midfielder Garrett Armstrong scored for the 12th-seeded Cougars (9-8).

Sparta 17, Paramus 0: Sophomore midfielder Erik Lanyi had two goals and four assists to lead the third-seeded Spartans (16-2) in North Group II. Andrew Smith, sophomore attack Zach Eberding and senior midfielder Tommy Keller each had two goals and two assists. Junior goalie Reagan Penner made three saves for the shutout. Sparta will host No. 6 Mahwah on Tuesday.

Watchung Hills 18, Morris Knolls 5: Senior midfielder Jared Huston had two goals and one assist for the 11th-seeded Golden Eagles (10-8) in North Group IV. Senior attacks Andrew Consales and Jon Engels also scored.

West Essex 18, Lenape Valley 4: Junior attack Mike Conrad and junior midfielder Freddy Scharnikow each scored twice for the ninth-seeded Patriots (12-7) in North Group I. Senior midfielder Eric Gibney had a goal.

Delbarton 6, Chaminade (N.Y.) 5: Matt Killian scored the game-winning goal with .03 seconds left in regulation to lift the Green Wave (16-0). Killian finished with two goals and Kevin Lewis had two goals and one assist. Tom Fowler and Austin Williams each had a goal.

Girls Lacrosse

Sparta 17, West Milford 3: Junior attack Beth McGraw led the Spartans (17-1) with four goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Claire Schmitzer had a hat trick and two assists and sophomore Mackenzie Maguire had a hat trick. Senior midfielder Emily Corrice had two goals and two assists and sophomore midfielder Julia Silvestri had one goal and three assists.

Baseball

Morris Catholic 10, Kittatinny 5: Justin Johannessen went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI for the Crusaders (13-9). Ryan Tiefenbacher went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored and David Ferrara went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Andrew Ferrara had a double, one run scored and one RBI. For the Cougars (7-14), Cowan Sikora went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Nick Pastor-Poe went 2-for-3 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.

Softball

Whippany Park 11, Lenape Valley 10 (8): Senior Courtney Simon went 4-for-4 with two triples and three runs scored for the Wildcats (18-6). Senior Sam Mellea went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and junior Alison Gleichman had a triple, one RBI and one run scored. Senior Ashley Belott had a double and two RBI while freshman Rachel Grabowski had two RBI. Kaela Romano went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and two runs scored for the Patriots. Maria Lacatena had a double and two runs scored and Rachel Breuninger had a double, one RBI and one run scored.
