High school roundup: Windsor tennis team gets first win


The Windsor High School boys tennis team got its first win of the season on Thursday, beating Centaurus 5-2. The Wizards moved to 1-2 after a pair of losses to strong 5A schools to begin the season. The Wizards relied on great play from their doubles teams. Windsor won all four doubles matches, highlighted by Kody Armann and Josh Villa’s three-set win in the No. 3 spot.

The win was payback for the Wizards after Centaurus handed them their only regular season loss last year. Windsor travels to face Alexander Dawson on Tuesday.


CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN STAMPEDE– The Liberty Common boys cross country team finished fifth in the Class 2A division of the Cheyenne Mountain Stampede. Vail Ski School finished first. The Liberty Common girls team finished 11th in the 16-team 2A field. Liberty Common’s Joe Caraway was 12th with a time of 19.43. Olivia Couch placed 21st with a time of 26.43.


MILE HIGH LEAGUE TOURNAMENT — Alexander Dawson won Thursday’s Mile High League tournament on Thursday with a team score of 215. Resurrection Christian came in fourth place, carding a team score of 242 at Highland Meadows Golf Course in Windsor. Alexander Dawson had the top three individual scores. Mason Munn from RCS was fourth with a 75 and Harrison Turner was fifth with a 76.


POUDRE 6, MOUNTAIN RANGE 1 — The Impalas earned a commanding victory at Mountain Range, dropping only two sets on the day. All of Poudre’s singles players, Liam Spearnak, Tyler Wilkinson and Israel Herrera, won their matches in straight sets.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN 4, BROOMFIELD 3 — The Lobos earned a close win on Thursday at Rocky, taking two singles matches and two doubles matches. Isaac Smith beat Josh Eafanti 6-3, 6-3 and Jason Kbrec defeated Adam Clarke 6-1, 6-1.


MOUNTAIN VIEW 3, WINDSOR 2 — The Wizards won the first two sets, but Mountain View came storming back to win in five sets, taking the deciding fifth set 15-11. It was Windsor’s first game of the season.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN LUTHERAN 3, LIBERTY COMMON 1 — After winning the first set, Liberty Common lost the next three sets as the Eagles fell to Rocky Mountain Lutheran.
