Windsor scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning and defeated host Oneonta 4-2 in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference East softball tiebreaker game on Thursday

Emma Benson hit a double that scored Allison Lockwood to put the Black Knights in front. Benson scored on a passed ball on the next pitch.

Windsor will now face Vestal in the STAC semifinals on Monday at 3 p.m. at the BAGSAI Complex on the Broome Community College Campus. Seton Catholic Central will face the winner of today’s Corning/Horseheads game in the other semifinal, with the championship game at 5:30.

Benson finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored for Windsor. Brianna Haines tied it for the Yellowjackets in the sixth with an RBI single.

After Haines’ single, Oneonta was able to load the bases with one out. Lockwood, the Black Knights’ catcher, picked Hailey Dower off third base on a throw-behind, and the next batter flied out to end the threat.

Norwich 3, Windsor 0: Cody Barnes limited visiting Windsor to four hits and struck out 12, and Chris Trevisani was 2-for-3 and drove in all of Norwich’s runs. The Black Knights’ Jake Conroy pitched five-hit ball with 11 strikeouts.

A couple of youngsters top the field heading into the final round of the Section 4 Medalist Tournament this morning at Cornell University’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.

Trumansburg freshman Dan Lapp and Susquehanna Valley 8th grader D.J. Griffiths were the lone sub-80 shooters in Thursday’s Round 1, with Lapp’s 5-over-par 77 besting Griffiths by two strokes.

That pair will be joined by Tristan Lesso of Corning in the final threesome off the tee, scheduled for a 10:50 start this morning. Inclusion among the 20 who will play today required an opening round of 89 or better.

The top nine finishers will make up Section 4’s team for the June 2-3 state championships back at Cornell.
