Hillsborough stuns Hunterdon Central in OT


Trailing by 13 points midway through the third quarter, the Hillsborough High School boys basketball team went on a 24-11 run to force overtime against Hunterdon Central and then outscored the Red Devils 6-3 in the extra session to win 50-47.

Matt Hornich’s 13 points and 10 rebounds paced Hillsborough (10-2) and Jalen Parham added 13 points of his own to lead the comeback effort. In overtime, James Smith converted a conventional three-point play to put the Raiders in front for good. James finished with seven points for the game.

Mike Knight scored a game-high 16 points for Hunterdon Central (7-4) and Jeff Dzierzawiec chipped in 10 points.

North Plainfield 69, South Hunterdon 53: Nassir Mann scored a team-high 15 points and Joe Mastrobatista hit six free throws in the final minute for the Canucks (4-4). Danny Gibson netted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for North Plainfield. Joe Whittaker scored a game-high 16 points for South Hunterdon (3-7).

Immaculata 65, Rutgers Prep 64: Jeremiah Muhammed scored 20, Shane Stephens netted 15 and Markell Barnes added 13 for Immaculata. Karl Charles has 24 points, Nick Brooks scored 15 points and P.J. Strahm added 12 for Rutgers Prep (5-3).

Bridgewater-Raritan 48, Franklin 32: Eric Murdock Jr. scored 13 points and Vince Pace added nine to lead Bridgewater-Raritan (7-4). Josh McGriff scored 17 points for Franklin (1-11).

Somerville 53, Bernards 39: Devin Randall scored 12 points and Stu Harris notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Pioneers (5-5). Griffin Connor scored a game-high 13 points for Bernards (6-5).

North Hunterdon 63, Warren Hills 48: Alex Westlin and Matt Jarvis each scored 12 points to lead the Lions (8-4).

Plainfield 41, Governor Livingston 39: Denzel Johnson scored 13 points and Wade Brown added 12 points of his own to pace the Cardinals (7-5). Cameron DeFronzo scored a game-high 15 for Governor Livingston.

Bound Brook 74, Pingry 43: Ricky Holliday netted 19 points and dished out seven assists and Jack Welti chipped in 19 points and seven rebounds to lead Bound Brook (10-0). Jack Galiardo scored 15 points to pace Pingry (1-8).

Westfield 33, Roselle 31: Keegan Hess scored a game-high 12 points and the Blue Devils closed the game on a 21-10 run en route to victory. Scott Toresco added nine points for Westfield.

Phillipsburg 62, Voorhees 52 (OT): Sam Caffrey scored 25 points for Voorhees (1-9).

New Providence 52, Morris Catholic 45: The Pioneers improved to 4-7 behind Bryan Sherman’s 17 points, Curtis Kyzima’s 14 points and Jordan Morang’s 22 rebounds.
