The Ohio University-Chillicothe volleyball team isn’t far removed from its state title, and the team showed its playoff experience this past weekend in the Newark Title Invitational.
The Hilltoppers took second place.
The Hilltoppers went 2-1 in pool play to advance to the semifinals, where the team defeated top-ranked Miami (Ohio)-Hamilton to punch its ticket to the finale against OU-Lancaster.
The Hilltoppers lost to OU-L in two sets, but head coach Tara Miller said her team has a bright future.
“(We) attacked the ball extremely well offensively and played very scrappy defense,” Miller said.
“Weaknesses for the day: serving and serves received. I believe we missed over 40 serves throughout five matches.”
The Hilltoppers return Hannah Halcomb (Adena) and Erin Barnes (Chillicothe) from 2012’s roster.
Newcomers this year include Jackie Kellough (Huntington), Madison Arledge (Southeastern), Amber Lewis (Paint Valley), Alex Roback (Waverly), Brianna Weese (Westfall) and Natalie Neff (Unioto).
“We have such awesome coaches in the area who hand over fundamentally sound players year after year,” Miller said.
