Senior pitcher Kayla Zimmerman stranded the tying run a third base with a game-ending strikeout Thursday afternoon as the Colonia High School softball team rallied and held on for a 2-1 triumph over J.F. Kennedy.
Zimmerman scattered five hits, walked one and struck out three in a superb outing.
J.F. Kennedy (5-5) pitcher Crystal Carlucci led off the game with double and scored on a fielders choice by Samantha Pastere.
The Patriots (6-4) came back in the third inning. Taylor Zimmerman singled, Nicole Donoghue walked Danielle Sica ripped an RBI single to tie the score 1-1. Marissa Tennaro drove in the go-ahead run with a sac fly.
Carlucci struck out seven, while surrendering four hits and four walks.
South Plainfield 6, North Brunswick 1: Caroline Ratti finished 1-for-3 with three RBI for South Plainfield (6-3). Winning pitcher Shannon McMahon struck out six while yielding two hits. Rebecca Colandrea had the only RBI for North Brunswick (4-8).
Woodbridge 12, Old Bridge 11 (8 inn.): Ashley Battista played the role of hero hitting a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth. Woodbridge, which trailed 11-6 in the bottom of the seventh, rallied to score five in the frame to send it to extras. Ashley Kudak finished 2-for-5 with three RBI for the Barrons (7-3). Old Bridge (2-6) held leads of 7-2 and 11-6 but could not pull off the upset victory.
Carteret 5, Bishop Ahr 4: Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Carteret (6-2) scored a pair of runs to score the walk off win. Rebecca Welch finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and teammate Giselles Perez collected two hits and scored two runs. Megan Ryan smacked a pair of doubles for Bishop Ahr (5-2).
15, Perth Amboy 0: Cindy Foresta smacked three singles and drove in three runs to lead Monroe in a rout. Sam Nunez finished 1-for-2 for Perth Amboy.
Cardinal McCarrick 20, Mother Seton 10: Amanda Bowsky finished with three hits, three doubles and three RBI for Cardinal McCarrick (5-2). Melissa Adams led the Eagles with four RBI. Lena Buccigrossi was a force at the plate for Mother Seton (2-4) driving in four runs including a home run.
Sayreville 8, J.P. Stevens 5: Powered by a seven run fifth inning, Sayreville got past J.P. Stevens. Christina Misiur drove in three runs while teammates Emily Cabrera and Erin Stvan had one RBI each.
East Brunswick 14, Piscataway 4: Gabrielle Kelliher went 3-for-5, including a three-run homer, to lead East Brunswick over Piscataway. Lauren Cram recorded four hits and scored four runs for the Bears while Ashli Venokur went 2-for-5 with three RBI.
