East Brunswick 6, Metuchen 0: After stranding runners in scoring position each of the first four innings, top-seeded East Brunswick (20-3) batted around in the fifth as they scored six runs on Shelby Lipson’s two-run single and Tori Zaccaria’s grand slam. Lipson went 3-for-4, Gabrielle Kelliher went 2-for-3, and Lauren Assennata pitched a three-hit shutout for the Bears, who will face ninth-seeded J.F. Kennedy in Wednesday’s quarterfinals. Nicole Camera took the loss for 16th-seeded Metuchen (16-6).
South Plainfield 7, Colonia 3: Shannon McMahon went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in the fourth inning and an RBI double in the fifth to lead fifth-seeded South Plainfield (16-7), which snapped a four-game losing streak. McMahon allowed no earned runs on four hits for the win while Meghan Hughes went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for the Tigers, who will play fourth-seeded Monroe in Wednesday’s quarterfinals. Taylor Zimmerman hit a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning for 12th-seeded Colonia (12-11) to cut the deficit to 7-3.
Monroe 12, Old Bridge 0 (5 inn.): Kelly Widener hit a first inning three-run homer before hitting an RBI double in the second inning, when Monroe batted around and scored eight runs after putting up a four-spot in the first. Widener allowed just two hits to 20th-seeded Old Bridge (5-16), which both came in the fifth inning, while Jesse Shea hit a two-run home run. Morgan Schweitzer hit a two-run double while Casey Schieda (two RBI), Cindy Foresta (two runs), and Margaux Petersen all went 2-for-2 for the Falcons, who will face fifth-seeded South Plainfield in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
Bishop Ahr 10, Piscataway 2: Megan Ryan went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and four RBI, hitting a two-run single in the third and capping off the scoring with a two-run homer in the sixth for second-seeded Bishop Ahr (15-4). Ryan allowed two earned runs on seven hits for the win, Christine LaRochelle went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, a run, and two RBI, and Gaby Elvina went 2-for-3 with a fifth inning solo home run as the Trojans will face seventh-seeded Carteret in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.Sara Vociasano went 3-for-3 with an RBI for 15th-seeded Piscataway (11-10) while Julia Seader went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored.
J.P. Stevens 2, North Brunswick 1: Stephanie Garrison and Ruth Zimmerman provided one RBI each to lift J.P. Stevens into Wednesday’s quarterfinals. With one out in the second inning, Rebecca DiSerio hit a bloop single to right. Danielle DeBenedetto followed with an infield single and after a fielder’s choice by Paige Sklar allowed DiSerio to get to third, Stephanie Garrison came through with the RBI line drive single to center. In the following inning when Kayla Smith led off with a single, Amanda Lombardi sacrificed her over and Ruth Zimmerman had a ground ball single up the middle to plate Smith. Winning pitcher Rebecca Coleman struck out 12 and allowed just three hits.
