HNT softball: Monroe hammers Colonia


Marissa Monasseri picked up three hits in four at-bats, including a double and a home run, and finished with four RBI to lead the Monroe High School softball team to a 13-1 victory over Colonia. Cindy Forestall also went 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run and two RBI for the Falcons (10-2).

Bridget Netta knocked in the run for Colonia (7-6).

Woodbridge 8, Edison 0: Corinne Kist and Ashley Kaduk each knocked in two runs and Woodbridge (8-6) cruised. Carly Kjersgaard picked up the victory, allowing just three hits in seven innings, while striking out five.

South Plainfield 11, Perth Amboy 0: Holly DeLair smacked a two-run home run and teamed with Shannon McMahon to drive in seven runs as South Plainfield (10-3) cruised. Giselle Santana and Quiana Starks picked up hits for Perth Amboy (0-10).

Wardlaw-Hartridge 15, Highland Park 0: Taylor Gerhart went 3-for-4 with a triple, homer, three runs and six RBI as Wardlaw-Hartridge rolled. Lacey Gress added three hits, three runs and three RBI for the Rams (10-0), while Ali Yamakaitis allowed just two hits and struck out nine in the four-inning outing. Sydney McManus-Smith tripled and Angelica Villanueva singled, the only hits for Highland Park (4-9)

East Brunswick 11, South Brunswick 1: Ashli Venokur homered twice in the third inning when the Bears sent 12 batters to the plate during an eight-run rally. She had a solo homer and a three-run blast during the outburst. Megan Costello went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBI and a triple. Gabrielle Kelliher added two hits and an RBI. Winning pitcher Lauren Assennata allowed five hits and fanned two.

Cardinal McCarrick 8, South Amboy 2: Kelsey Edwards went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Eagles, while teammate Brittany Clayton went 2-for-3. Alexis Wojtowicz and Andrea Garcia each had an RBI for the Governors. Winning pitcher Jackie Riley yielded three hits.

Bishop Ahr 6, North Brunswick 2: Gabby Elvina singled and scored on a fielder’s choice to ignite a five-run rally in the third. The Raiders (4-10) scored their runs on Nicolette Aloia’s two-run homer in the seventh. Winning pitcher Meg Ryan allowed two hits and fanned five. Christine LaRochelle had two RBI for Bishop Ahr (8-3).

South River 15, Woodbridge Academy 5: Sam Lange went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored for the Rams (8-5). Robin Nolan went 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Winning pitcher Olivia Boyler fanned four. Losing pitcher Richa Shah fanned 10 for the Hornets (4-7).

Bloomfield Tech 18, Perth Amboy Tech 1: Michelle Infante went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Patriots.

J.P. Stevens 12, Old Bridge 1: The first seven Hawks reached base safely in the game. Ruth Zimmerman and Gabby Young each had RBI singles and Julianna Zilli had a two-run single during the rally. Rebecca DiSerio and Danielle DeBenedetto both singled and scored in the third. Winning pitcher Rebecca Coleman struck out 12 over four innings.
