On April 6, Northwestern (Detroit) senior football player and class president Balaal Hollings was shot in the head at a house party. On Tuesday, he surprised his classmates by walking at his graduation ceremony.
“They don’t know I’m coming,” Hollings told WXYZ.com as he arrived at the Milennium Centre in Southfield. “They think I’m dilapidated.”
Nuballa Hollings told ABCNews.com that her brother was hospitalized for two weeks after a bullet from an unidentified shooter entered his temporal lobe. Doctors didn’t expect him to be ready to return home until June 15, but Balaal proved them wrong.
“First of all, I want to thank God, it is so great to be alive,” Hollings said from the podium after receiving a standing ovation. “I got shot in the head and I am fully rehabilitated.”
WXYZ.com reports that Hollings will throw out the first pitch at tonight’s Detroit Tigers game.
