RALEIGH, N.C. — As the dawn of a new year approaches the only thing more common than confetti and off-key renditions of Auld Lang Syne are the ever-so-infamous New Year’s resolutions.
From dropping weight to dropping debt millions will try, most in vain, to maintain their lofty goals all year.
Good luck with that.
Now hoops resolutions; there’s a goal that’s attainable.
We caught up with a handful of high school hoopers at the High School OT Holiday Invitational tournament in Raleigh, N.C. and had them dish on their New Year’s resolutions for the hardwood.
Joel Berry, Lake Highland Prep (Orlando, Fla.), PG, 2014
Headed to: North Carolina
My New Year’s resolution for hoops is… To win a state championship for my team and make it out of this season better than I was last year… And to stay healthy.
Dennis Smith Jr., Trinity (Fayetteville, N.C.), PG, 2016
Undecided
My New Year’s resolution for hoops is… To finish the second half of the season undefeated, maintain a double-double average, stay undefeated at home and win a ring.
Devin Booker, Moss Point (Moss Point, Miss.), SG, 2014
Headed to: Kentucky
My New Year’s resolution for hoops is… No more losses. That might sound crazy with this 3-10 record, but just watch!
Goodluck Okonoboh, Wilbraham and Monson (Wilbraham, Mass.), C, 2014
Headed to: UNLV
My New Year’s resolution for hoops is… To improve my overall game. A lot of people want to improve one specific thing, but I feel like you can’t go wrong improving everything.
Gary Clark, Clayton (Clayton, N.C.), F, 2014
Headed to: Cincinnati
My New Year’s resolution for hoops is… To get in the weight room and get stronger.
Justin Jackson, HCYA (Houston), SF, 2014
Headed to: North Carolina
My New Year’s resolution for hoops is… To keep getting stronger and getting better all-around.
