Susquehanna Valley freshman DJ Griffiths shot a 1-over-par 73 to earn individual medalist honors and Horseheads edged past Vestal to capture the team title Monday at the 18th annual Nick DiNunzio Memorial golf tournament at En-Joie Golf Course.

Griffiths finished a stroke ahead of Horseheads’ Luke Tetreault. The trio of Maine-Endwell’s John Plouffe, Windsor’s Nate Wrighter, and Chenango Valley’s Zach Wyatt shared third with rounds of 76.

Horseheads won with a 404 total, three strokes better than Vestal (407). Last year’s team champion, Maine-Endwell, shared third with Chenango Forks at 418 in the 16-team invitational.

Tetreault’s 74 was one of three Blue Raider rounds in the 70s, as Nick Marino and Ryan Piersimoni both carded rounds of 79.

Jared Reester, Ryan Mihok, Jon Fosbury and Mickie Mullins all had rounds of 81 to lead Vestal. The Golden Bears also finished second last year, losing by 14 strokes to Maine-Endwell.
