Football players from 11 high schools gathered in Mentor, Ohio, on Monday night for the third Hooley House/News-Herald High School Football Hot Dog Eating Contest.
With bragging rights — and a whole lot of calories on the line — two-man teams had 3 minutes to eat as many hot dogs as they could.
Here’s video from the second round by the News-Herald’s Cheryl Sadler:
In the end, Mentor’s Brandon Ray and Matt Zolcak were victorious. An official count wasn’t published, but I think it’s safe to say that none of the participants are going to be the next Joey Chestnut. (That’s a good thing.)
Congrats to Mentor for winning Hooley House/News-Herald HS Football Hot Dog Eating Showdown …. Cards nip Kirtland, 3way tie for 3rd

And Zolcak predicted that it wouldn’t be Mentor’s only title this season.
Tonight was the first of 4 championships the mentor football team will be bringing home this year
