Oshkosh North had a sudden change of fortune at its volleyball invitational on Saturday.
After breezing through the three matches of pool play and taking the first set against Green Bay NEW Lutheran, the Spartans wouldn’t win another set and end up fourth among the eight teams.
“It was like the light switch was just flipped off,” North coach Luke Herriges said.
North took the first set against NEW Lutheran by a whopping 25-10 margin, but then dropped the next two, 25-16, 16-14. The Spartans then fell in the third-place match to a Laconia team they had beaten in pool play.
Mina House had a huge day for the Spartans, finished with 66 kills, 30 digs, seven blocks and four aces. Sam Foote chipped in 20 kills for North, while Valerie O’Connor had a team-high 40 digs.
Berlin, which won the tournament last year, finished eighth this season and did not win a match on the day.
DeForest won the eight-team event, beating NEW Lutheran in the championship match.
