Huettner hits pair of grand slams to lead I-S softball


WEST SALEM – Brianne Huettner had a day to remember in Iola-Scandinavia’s softball teams doubleheader sweep of West Salem on Saturday.

Huettner smacked a grandslam in both games and had a combined 11 RBIs as the Thunderbirds rolled to 15-3 and 7-2 victories, respectively.

PORTAGE – Nicki Hauser hit a three-run home run, and Angela Lange went 2 for 3 and earned the win as the Panthers knocked off Chippewa Falls, which entered the game as the top-ranked Divsion 1 program in the state.

Taylor Smola also had a home run against Chi-Hi, as Hauser’s home run in the third inning gave the Panthers the lead for good.

The Panthers completed the day with a 16 hits in a rout of a Kenosha Bradford squad, which also entered the game ranked. Hauser went 3 for 5 with four RBIs in the game, and Shaylee Kluck went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Papermakers catcher Brie Maddaugh went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, and her sister, Mia, also went 3 for 4.

STEVENS POINT – Bradley Luetschwager (No.1) Ben Rodenkirch (No. 2) won singles titles, and the Panthers top doubles team of Noah Meier/Trenton Seegert did as well as Stevens Point Area Senior High won the team title at their home tournament.

Marshfield’s No. 2 doubles teams of Jacob Limmex and Kohl VanOudenHoven won titles, as did the No. 3 tandem of Mitch Ott/Ryne Felhofer. The Tigers Bryce Gadke also won at No. 3 singles.

LA CROSSE – Ian Grosch delivered with a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh to complete a doubleheader sweep of Stevens Point Area Senior High on Saturday.

The Panthers led 7-0 in game one, but Central held SPASH scoreless after the third inning and scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the opener.

Cal Giese went 2 for 4 and Kevin Slezak also had two hits and two RBIs in game one for the Panthers. Mitch Mallek and Jon Barnes each had two hits in the nightcap for SPASH.

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mary Sigler scored six goals to set a program mark for a single game, and also added an assist as Assumption rolled to an win over Oskosh Lourdes in its season opener.

Jasmine Hunn added a goal and an assist, and Hannah Skibba recorded two saves.

Hubcap Classic


Chente Menzel scored both goals as Sun Prairie downed Wisconsin Rapids 2-0 in the championship game of the Raiders’ home tournament.

Rapids edged Chippewa Falls 1-0 in the semifinal matchup as Megan Charette had the lone goal. Crystal Yustus had two saves in the shutout win.
