Marie Rothrock scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Corydon past Scottsburg 58-43 for the Class 3-A Sectional championship Saturday night.
The Panthers (19-5) led by nine at the half and came out strong defensively after the break, conceding only five points in the third quarter. Corydon then put the game away from the stripe hitting 19 of 26 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Taylor Frederick chipped in 11 points and five rebounds for Corydon, and Kayla Uhl also scored 11.
The Warriors (15-9) were led by Ashley Elliot, who finished with a game-high 21 points.
Corydon will face Evansville Bosse (18-6) in the Brownstown Central Regional next Saturday at 10 a.m.
* Paoli 57, Eastern Pekin 38: Sophie Sears, Paoli’s all-time leading scorer, finished with 28 points, and the host Rams (21-1), ranked No. 4, pulled away from the Musketeers (10-13) for the championship of the Class 2-A Paoli Sectional.
Sears hit 16 of 17 free throws. “Sophie’s a great player,” said Eastern coach Mike McBride. “She’s very difficult to guard.”
Paoli, the back-to-back sectional champion, will face No. 1 Evansville Mater Dei (24-2) in the first game of the Paoli Regional on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
“Paoli’s a good team,” McBride said. “But Mater Dei’s really good.”
Bailey England led Eastern with 13 points.
* Jasper 66, Mitchell 53: Shelby Merder scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the host Wildcats (15-9) past the Bluejackets (15-6) in the final of the Class 3-A Jasper Sectional.
Jasper now will face Rushville on Saturday at the Brownstown Regional.
Mia Burton led Mitchell with 16 points.
* Rushville 63, Madison 56: Mackenzie Campbell scored 17 points to lead the Lions (20-3) over the Cubs (18-5). Sarah Cook also chipped in 15 points for Rushville. Madison was led by Hannah Cain, who scored a game-high 18 points.
