Irmo's McKie Named Gatorade Player of the Year

By

(WLTX) — It is an Irmo sweep for the state’s 4A Gatorade Player of the Year awards.

Recently, Dutch Fork’s Alaina Coates was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for 4A girls after helping the Silver Foxes capture their second straight state title.

Seven miles down the road at Irmo High School, the boys team capped off an undefeated season by winning its second title in three years and Justin McKie was a key player in that run.

McKie averaged 18 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals.

The last player from Irmo to win the Gatorade award was Justin’s father BJ who is USC’s all-time leading scorer.

Irmo is currently ranked 13th in the USA Today Top 25, while the Dutch Fork girls are sixth.
