Senior Connor Cramton and seventh-grader Michael Zhao won their third-place doubles match to propel Ithaca High to its second consecutive Section 4 Class A team title Friday afternoon at Elmira Free Academy.

Cramton and Zhao posted a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Vestal’s Parth Lalkiya and Youduf Shah.

“Our players showed a lot of mental composure after dropping the first set decisively,” Ithaca coach Arthur Falkson said by email. “They picked up their consistency, stayed positive and communicated very well, in addition to making a lot of great volleys during the second and third sets.”

Ithaca finished with 40 points, while Corning was second with 37 and Elmira was third with 36. Union-Endicott scored 30 points to finish fourth and Horseheads was fifth with 25.

By winning this match, Cramton and Zhao will face the third-place finisher from Class C on Wednesday at the Binghamton Tennis Center for the right to advance to next weekend’s Section 4 state qualifier tournament.
