Lindsay Biondi, one of six Ithaca seniors honored at halftime, scored six goals to lead the Little Red girls lacrosse team to an 18-7 victory over Union-Endicott in Section 4 play at Bredbenner Field.
Senior Grace Boyce had a hat trick while classmate Lauren Herrick and Molly Long had two goals apiece for the Little Red (10-3), which has won five straight since a nonleague loss to Penn Yan on April 18. Ithaca led at halftime, 12-4, and opened up a 10-goal lead early in the second half despite the extended intermission due to the senior recognition. The program’s six seniors are Biondi, Boyce, Herrick, Shannon Dracup, goalie Julie Erickson and backup goalie L.T. Furman.
“It’s always a little tough (on Senior Night) because the kids are distracted,” Ithaca coach Lyn Reitenbach said after the game. “But as distracted as they were, they were also pumped, and they came out and got the job done.”
The Little Red led in shots (40-15), ground balls (15-9) and draw controls (20-7).
Kelsey Prosinski had a hat trick and Caitlyn Tremblay made 11 saves for the Tigers, who lost to Ithaca in the teams’ first meeting, 14-3, on April 2 in Endicott.
Ithaca has one game remaining in the regular season, Monday night at Corning. The Hawks defeated the Little Red, 12-8, in their first meeting on April 11.
“We lost by four in our first meeting, which in girls lacrosse is nothing,” said Biondi, who raised her season goals total to 69. “We think we can come back and win in the next game, which hopefully we can.”
