Wilson Gearhart scored twice and goalie Aaron Goldberg made 22 saves Saturday as the Ithaca High boys’ hockey team finished third at the Cicero-North Syracuse Optimist Tournament with a 4-2 victory over Greece at Cicero Twin Rinks.
Chandler Pfaff added a goal and an assist and Jacob Grippin scored the game-winning goal with 5:25 to play for the Little Red (8-3), which fell into the consolation game with Friday’s 4-0 loss to Syracuse. The Cougars would go on to lose, 6-5, in the title game to seventh-ranked tournament host C-NS.
Cole Johnson and Joey Gardner scored for Greece, which led 1-0 after the first period before Ithaca rallied. The Little Red also got assists from Connor McAllister and Ryan Emerson.
Adam Jarvis made 13 saves for Greece.
Ithaca plays its final three home games of the season this week, all at Cornell’s Lynah Rink, beginning with Monday’s 7:45 p.m. clash with Fayetteville-Manlius.
* Ithaca 124, Binghamton 57: Host Ithaca’s Ryan Nicholson, Dave Miller, Francis Schickel, and Will Fisher set a pool record in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of three minutes, 20.84 seconds.
Ithaca (4-0) won every event except diving; Nicholson also swam on the winning 200 medley relay, and won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Andrew Mikhailichenko won the 500 free and 100 breaststroke for Ithaca.
