J.P. Stevens holds on to beat Westfield

Senior Justin Wojciechowski went 3-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base and senior Josh Anes got the save as J.P. Stevens held on Wednesday to beat Westfield 7-6.

The Hawks (1-2) also won at Westfield last year, beating the Blue Devils in the first round of the North 2 Group IV tournament.

J.P. Stevens had a six-run lead, but the Blue Devils (0-2) scored four in the sixth, and another in the seventh.

Senior left fielder Joe Siecinski had three hits for the Hawks. Chris Lee made two sparkling catches to save two runs and senior Charlie Fallin got the win on the mound with 5 2/3 innings of work.

Dunellen 11, East Brunswick Tech 0: Senior righty Casey Wenzel threw his second career no hitter and delivered a two-run double for Dunellen (2-0). Wenzel, who threw a perfect game against Cardinal McCarrick last season, walked a batter in the fourth, but then picked him off. Matt Switzer and Matt Heidinger added RBI doubles in the third and Paul Appleton hit a solo homer – his first ever — in the fourth. Rob Young added a sacrifice RBI and Luke Harshaney deliverd an RBI single in the four-run inning. East Brunswick Tech is 1-1.

South Plainfield 9, Colonia 2: Sal Esposito went 3-3 and scored twice and AJ Celentano knocked in two runs to lead South Plainfield (3-0). Colonia (0-2) scored both of its runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Cardinal McCarrick 9, Perth Amboy Tech 3: McCarrick (1-1) bounced back from a mercy rule loss Monday to Dunellen. Tech is 0-2.

John F. Kennedy 11, Woodbridge 3: Joe Stone was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Zach Buchholz was 2-3 with two RBI and three runs scored for Kennedy (2-0). Pablo Torres was 2-for3 with an RBI. Adonis Hernandez led the game off with a home run. Josue Ruiz pitched three scoreless innings for the save. Jesse Lammers slugged a two-run homer and Josh Solano was 3-for-3 with two runs scored for Woodbridge (0-2).

Highland Park 10, Timothy Christian 2: Mike Kovalchik pitched five innings, allowing one earned run and striking out seven. He didn’t allow a walk. He also had three hits, scored two runs and had an RBI. James Webb added two hits with a home run and three RBI for Highland Park (1-1). Jeff Parker had 3 hits for Timothy Christian, 0-2.

South Amboy 10, Piscataway Tech 0: South Amboy (2-0) scored three in the second, four in the second and three in the third.
