Mekhai Bates evidently has a little Jadeveon Clowney in him. While the Hill City (Kan.) wide receiver may not have launched an early Heisman campaign with his helmet-popping block during a recent game, the impact did recall images of the South Carolina defensive end’s legendary hit on Michigan’s Vincent Smith.
Bates’ block, which appeared painful and legal, came on a busted running play and it helped spring running back Gabe Hamel for a touchdown.
