Editor’s Note: A previous version of this story incorrectly identified El Camino Real’s opponent as Taft.
El Camino Real (Woodland Hills, Calif.) pulled off one of strangest trick plays you’ll ever see during a JV game against Cleveland (Reseda, Calif.) last Friday.
After Conquistadors quarterback Jahlil Pinkett takes the snap, El Camino Real coaches start shouting, “That’s the wrong ball.” Pinkett jogs toward the sideline, ostensibly to receive a proper football. Meanwhile, Cleveland’s players look confused by what is happening. That confusion likely turns to shock after Pinkett drops the charade and races untouched down the sideline for a touchdown.
Now that’s just cruel, but also brilliant in its simplicity. Baseball has the hidden ball trick; let’s call this the wrong ball trick.
Pinkett is actress Jada Pinkett Smith’s nephew, according to Max Preps.
UPDATE: As some of you mentioned in the comments, this play is illegal under NFHS rules.
@USATODAYhss According to FB rules editor, the play is illegal under NFHS rules. Would be unsportsmanlike conduct.
